Joe Biden wrote WSJ op-ed and couldn’t go more than eleven words before blaming Putin for inflation. This is not only gaslighting but plain insulting. Inflation was on the rise for a year before a single shot was fired in the current war. Obviously, the war pressures energy and food markets even further but it was not the cause of the problem. The Fed’s crazy monetary policies in 2021 coupled with additional and totally unnecessary fiscal stimulus last year did far more to stoke the fires. It’s tiring to be lied to constantly by politicians who think voters are just plain stupid.

Keep writing these longer form pieces. Thoughtful, interesting and keeps me from having to read nonsense from the usual business writers who can only either talk their books, write from their employer's approved script, or suck up to power.

Yeah, when was the last time that puffed up wax bag of Wheaties inside the box was actually more than 40% actual Wheaties. I think it was maybe about 1988. Can't imagine what a family with just 2 kids is budgeting for food these days.

Yeah but Jay Powell is worth over $100 million, so it balances out.

Should be in leg irons for front running trades.

It doesn’t take a genius to see the fiat ponzi system and how it all works. Inflation is just another tool in the box. Great piece. Drop the mike!

Have you many further examples of questionable substitutions / calculation methodologies used by the BLS when calculating CPI? Would love to know how they go about managing substitutions especially with food. For instance are beef price rises downplayed by assuming that consumers are substituting with Chicken or in our near future crickets? Recently moved to the states from AUS and have seen my grocery bill increase well over 50%…

This is for 2020. Changes over time and they have pages of nonsensical explanations of their wacky methodologies https://www.bls.gov/cpi/tables/relative-importance/2020.htm

Your a historian Dr Havenstein. Miss you on Twitter but, lots better here.

As penance for all my sins, I’ve paged through again Rise & Fall of Third Reich. Who predicted WWII 100 yrs ago? History came back to bite millions of ppl in their hearts, minds & souls.

I watch carefully these days the conduct of the US, China, India. Half the worlds population. China & India indirectly if not directly support Putin. EU, NATO & US sponsor state of the art weaponry to Ukraine to keep their “hands clean” of starting WWIII. Keep it in Ukraine where it can’t hue ROW. What a F’ing mistake that has been🎯

Worse still. Fault lies w/ Putin when you hear the West. And, more dramatically, there is 0, nichts, nada discussion about the escalation into nuclear warfare.

On no. That can’t / won’t happen. Sound familiar to Hilter’s assault ? I’m not analogizing Putin to Hitler. The point is nobody seems to be willing to talk about escalation into the next stage of confrontation here. Almost as if it’s not possible. Which means probability is not low!

Look carefully….ppl laugh at that ol’ geezer Soros but, it’s an open issue. We’re ruder less politically speaking. Putin has acted on so many levels criminally but, it’s beside the point. So have other so called leaders from other powerful countries.

Isn’t that what starts to tragic misunderstandings that eventually lead to the unexpected terrible events?

Just asking for my grandchildren?✅😞…keep up Ur good work Hombre🎯
