I was initially fooled by Elon’s “free speech” claims but I should have known better. I don’t know what his end game is, if he even has one, but the platform is as bad as it has ever been after five months under his control.
It’s puzzling - I think he believes in free speech but I wonder what pressure is being brought to bear on him by powerful people? After all , money and bankers are a lethal combination as you know. Why blow $40B and not create the ‘utopian’ free speech public square he intended? I’m only speculating but it doesn’t make sense.
Seems pretty clear that he made the offer on a whim and tried very hard to get out of it, only completing the deal when it became apparent that he would lose in court and be embarrassed.
Substack is the new place to be IMHO. The fact that writers own their email lists helps keep the company honest. Content creators can leave and take their readers with them if the company starts banning publications
